Sir Richie Richardson will referee the Independence Cup

Pakistan vs World XI

Steely-eyed strokesman & ex skip of WI, Sir Richie Richardson to referee the Independence Cup!

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) today announced that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed Sir Richie Richardson, former WI captain and member of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC match referees since January 2016. As match referee for the Independence Cup to be played between the World XI and Pakistan at the Gaddafi Stadium on 12, 13 and 15 September 2017.

Sir Richie, is no stranger to Lahore, having played 2 tests and 4 ODI’s at the Gaddafi Stadium against Pakistan. The masterful, steely-eyed strokesman (once scored 99 with a broken finger against India in 1989) has played 86 tests, 224 ODIs and was a revered skipper for the Windies.

The PCB have worked tiresomely to demonstrate the merit of the return of international cricket to Pakistan. Having complied with the stringent standards of Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations (FICA) and the ICC strongly backing the series, you can rest assure that the PCB have taken every precaution to ensure the safety of players and spectators alike.
